I see tomatillos almost every store when I go to US but here is Toronto they are hard to find. So whenever I see it, I always buy few.
I absolutely love Mexican cuisine and condiments. I do make spicy tomato salsa (pico De gallo) and mango salsa, and sometimes tomatillo salsa verde. Salsa is very easy and can be easily done at home.
This salsa not only goes well with all Mexican dishes but also serve as a dip with chips for appetizer during get together. You may have seen my recipes for nachos, burrito bowl, guacamole, quesadilla, etc. on my website. My family loves the Mexican food as it has flavours and spices like Indian food. Here is how I made this spicy delicious salsa in just a few minutes.
Preparation Time: 5-7 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
3-4 tomatillo
1 medium size onion
2 garlic cloves
1 jalapeno or serrano pepper
1/4 cup chopped cilantro (coriander) leaves
1/4 tsp cumin powder
2 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Procedure:
1. Cut tomatillo in half, cut onion in quarters, jalapeno in half. Arrange everything including garlic gloves in air fryer tray or oven tray. Roast this at 350F for 4-5 mins in air fryer or 7-8 mins in oven. Just keep eye on and don’t let it burn.
2. In a chopper or blender, add roasted tomatillo, onion, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, cumin powder, lemon juice and salt. Chop it on low-speed or pulse grind in blender. Keep the salsa chunky (do not turn into the gravy).
This is a crowd pleaser. You can prepare it a day ahead before you big party. Serve it with nachos, burritos, quesadilla or on a burger. I am using jalapeno pepper but if you don’t have access to jalapeno, you can use any mild chili. You can make it mild or spicy depending on your taste.
