Spicy Mexican Tomato Salsa

How are you guys doing? A few days back, it was feeling like spring in Toronto but then it reversed and it started snowing (now, it’s freezing cold!). I had to pull out my winter gear again…lol. I love to eat something spicy when it is cold outside like nachos with spicy salsa.

I like to make my own salsa whenever possible. I make different kind of salsa like tomato salsa, mango salsa etc. The recipe I am sharing is for tomato salsa also known as PICO DE GALLO. There is no cooking involve and if you have all the ingredients ready then it will take 5 minutes to prepare it. I like to make my salsa spicy. It is very easy to prepare with most ingredients available in your refrigerator.

This salsa not only goes well with all Mexican dishes but also serve as a dip with chips for appetizer during get together. You may have seen my recipes for nachos, burrito bowl, guacamole, quesadilla, etc. on my blog. My family loves the Mexican food as it has flavours and spices like Indian food. Here is how I made this spicy delicious salsa in just a few minutes.

Preparation Time: 5-7 minutes

Cooking Time: 0 minutes

Ingredients:
2 big tomato
1/2 cup tomato puree or blanched tomato
1 small onion
1/2 green pepper
1 jalapeno pepper
2 garlic cloves
Handful of cilantro (coriander) leaves
1/2 tsp cumin powder and black pepper powder
2 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste

Procedure:

In a chopper or blender, chop garlic first to fine paste or add grated garlic to the chopper/blender. Then add roughly chopped onion, green pepper, jalapeno, cilantro leaves, tomato puree or blanched tomato, cumin and black pepper powder, lemon juice and salt. Chop it on low-speed or pulse in blender. Keep the salsa chunky (do not turn into the gravy).
This is a crowd pleaser. You can prepare it a day ahead before you big party. Serve it with nachos, burritos, quesadilla or on a burger. I am using jalapeno pepper but if you don’t have access to jalapeno, you can use any mild chili.

Also let me know if you have any questions regarding this dip.
