Zaatar Pita Chips

Recently I have been going crazy over zaatar seasoning. It is used mostly in Mediterranean cuisine. I have been eating with avocado, with hummus and bread and in salad dressing. This is a super easy healthy chips made using store bought pita and zaatar seasoning. In my house, we like to eat snacks with afternoon tea. Most of the time I end up buying ready made snack which are not very healthy. So whenever I find fresh pita in store, I prepare these chips at home. It is so delicious takes less than 10 minutes to prepare it. I also serve these with hummus (chickpea dip), baba ganoush (eggplant dip) or foul mudammas . I also add it to fattoush salad. So these are very healthy chips which can be used in many ways.

Please note that you can see printable version at the end. You need to use chrome browser to print or save a one pager copy of the recipe.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 4-5 minutes

Ingredients:

Fresh pita (store bought)
Zaatar seasoning (blend of sesame, thyme, sumac and salt)
Olive oil
Salt if needed

Procedure:

1. Separate both layer of pita so chips will be paper thin. You can keep the whole pita as is, if you like thicker chips.

2. In a bowl, mix zaatar seasoning and olive oil. Add pinch of salt if needed. Make this slightly this so easy to spread on pita.

3. Spread the seasoning mixture on one side of pita using clean hands. Put pita on baking dish.

4. Bake it at 350F for 3-4 minutes. Make sure to check as these chips are very thin and can get brown very quickly. When slightly brown and crispy, remove from oven and let it cool down. If you are not separating pita layers then bake little more (5-7 mins) until crisp.

5. You can break and store in clean dry container at room temperature. It will stay good for nearly 8-10 days.

You can serve this with Mediterranean dip or use it for garnishing on salad. You can add your choice of spices like cumin, black pepper, oregano, red chili powder, mango powder etc. You can keep it plain if that’s what you prefer.
