Indian cooks are excellent in creating the fusion food combining International cuisine with our very famous dishes. I love bhel (chat) so I make variety of bhel. I make Indian bhel, taco bhel (not Bell 😜) (Mexican), Chinese bhel, farali bhel (for vrat) and endless different types of bhel like chat.
My family loves Hakka style Chinese cuisine. Some of our favourite dishes are Vegetable Fried Rice, Vegetable Stir Fry with Manchurian Balls, Manchow soup. My husband is not very fond of noodles but rest of my family love noodles. Here I have prepared Chinese bhel using fried noodles and veggies and sauce. It is very easy and super delicious with crunchy noodles and sweet & sour sauce. This is a very famous street food in India. You can find this bhel on many street corners and it is loved my all.
For this recipe, I have used store bought fried noodles (chow mien) which saved me lot of time. You can definitely prepare fried noodles at home. To prepare fried noodles, first boil noodles as per package direction. Then drain water and rinse. Let it slightly dry before frying. To fry noodles, in a kadai heat oil for frying and then add the boiled noodles (while separating noodles with hand) in medium hot oil and then until light golden and crispy. Remove and keep aside until use. You can do this a day ahead.
This recipe is vegan and nut free.
This recipe serves 2 people.
Preparation time: 15-20Â minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
Fried noodles
2 cup thinly sliced cabbage
1/2 cup thinly sliced green pepper
2 spring onion chopped
1 carrot thinly sliced
1 inch ginger thinly sliced
3-4 garlic cloves thinly sliced
Sauce and spices:
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste
Sriracha sauce
Hot sauce
Tomato ketchup
White vinegar
Procedure:
1. Â Cut and prepare all the vegetable as shown in the picture.
2. Heat a pan with 1 tsp oil. When oil is hot, add shredded cabbage, carrot, green pepper and ginger and sauté on high heat for 1 minute. Add spring onion (keep few on side for garnishing) and salt and cook for 1 minute and turn off the heat. Veggies need to be crunchy. Some people don’t stir fry veggies and use them raw while making bhel. Keep this aside.
3. You can customize this as per each person’s taste. Just before you want to serve bhel, in a mixing bow, add sautéed veggies, sriracha sauce, hot sauce and tomato ketchup as per your taste. Add 2-3 drops of vinegar and mix well. Then add fried noodles and mix with veggies and sauces.
4. Garnish with spring onion and serve this immediately. You can also add Manchurian ball (recipe can be found here) to this dish.
This dish is ready in no time. If you are serving this to a bigger crowd, you can prepare everything ahead of time and assemble last minutes. You can ask you guest to choose whatever veggies and sauce they like and help themselves.
Try this dish at home and I am sure your family will love it as much as we did.
