Farali Bhel

As much as I love sabudana khichdi I can’t eat that every single time I am fasting, vrat or upvas (special food we eat during holy month or days). I remember many year back, I used to prepare farali bhel which was my favourite and I never got tired of eating that. But after coming to Canada, I almost forgot about it. So this time I decided to prepare bhel instead of khichdi. I absolutely enjoyed it!! It is very easy recipe. One thing I wanted to point out that always use bigger sabudana (nylon) which are suitable for frying. Or buy ready made fried sabudana or replace with makhana (fox nuts).

Preparation Time: 10-12 minutes

Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes

Ingredients:

1/4 cup fried peanuts
Few fried potato chips and sabudana chips slightly crushed
Raisins (kishmish)
1½ boiled potato finely cut
Fox nuts or fried sabudana
Pinch of black pepper and cumin powder
Salt to taste
Sugar (optional)
Lemon juice

Procedure:

1. Mix all the ingredients. Add green chili, salt, sugar (optional), lemon juice, cumin and black pepper powder as per your taste. Mix well and serve immediately.

If you have dates chutney without dal or anything which we can’t eat during falahar, then you can add that too. Also, fresh grapes or pomegranate will go really nice in this bhel. You can add some dry fruits and chopped nuts too. I would highly recommend you to try this bhel. So next time, if you are fasting or not, you should at least give it a try. You can also serve this as a light snacks. I am sure it’s going to be your favourite farali food.
