How to Sprout Beans Quickly Even In Canadian Winter

Hello Friends,

People sprout beans using many different technique. Some tie them in muslin cloth, some use sprouting jar. I have learned few tricks over the years. It is very easy, doesn’t require fancy equipment or cloth. It sprouts within 48 hours even in Canada where weather is so cold.
Sprouting grains increases many of the grains‘ key nutrients, including B vitamins, vitamin C, folate, fiber, and essential amino acids often lacking ingrains, such as lysine.

Preparation Time: 0 minutes

Cooking Time: 0 minutes

Ingredients:

Any beans like Bengal gram, dried mung beans, black beans, etc.

Procedure
1. Clean the beans, wash with water and soak it in water for 4-5 hours covering lid until beans double in size.

Soak

2. Remove all water except just keep slight water so beans remains moist. cover with lid and put heavy weight on the top, I put my cast iron pan. This way it builds pressure inside.

3. In 24 hours you will see sprout starts to come out. If you see beans dries out, add 1 tsp water to moist.

4. In 48 hours beans are fully sprouted. Keep longer if you want longer sprouts. You can use it in salad, raita, or just make simple curry.

  1. Dear Bhavna,
Thank you for your unique recipe. I would like to ask you other methods require the beans to be rinsed periodicallly with water during the sprouting process-typically 2 or 3 times a day. In your case, you leave 24 hrs. Do you ever need to rinse or just add 1 tsp water if the beans dry out?

    1. Thank you for reaching out.
I do not rinse beans after initial rinse. Mine starts sprouting in 30-36 hours and I use them after 48-50 hours. If they are not sprouted enough then keep longer. Remeber, if weather is hot then it may get smelly. In that case, you may want to rinse and wrap in cotton cloth.
