Dear Foodies,
I have been trying out many different flavours and incorporate it in Indian cooking. I am using Indian cottage cheese/paneer to prepare this dish which is a perfect starter or a finger food for any occasion. It is very easy and can be prepared in few minutes. By adding Italian flavours to paneer sticks makes it quiet unusual. Sour cream adds little tang to this dish. It is very aromatic as well as spicy…yummm :P. It was my 1st time combining these flavours with paneer but definitely not last :).
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 6-7 minutes
Ingredients:
Paneer – 300 gm
Strained / thick yogurt – 1/2 cups
Sour cream – 2 tbsp
Hot chili powder – 1/2 tsp
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp dry basil flakes
Salt to taste
Oil for cooking
Procedure
1. Cut paneer into 1 1/2 inch long stick. If paneer is not fresh then soak it in warm water for 1/2 hour with bowl covered with lid. If paneer is fresh then skip this step. 2. In another bowl, combine yogurt, sour cream, hot chili powder, oregano, dry basil flakes and salt. Mix well.
3. In a wide pan, heat 2 tbsp oil. When oil is hot add paneer sticks. Saute on one side for a minutes and then carefully turn. Saute for 1-2 minutes and add yogurt mixture. Cook on low to medium heat for 3-4 minutes or until yogurt mixture starts to dry out. Turn off heat and move the pan away from heat.
6. Paneer sticks are now ready. Serve it as a starter/finger food. Enjoy it just by itself, you don’t need any dip with it. It is spicy and full of flavours. Sweet flavour of basil and pungency of oregano makes it a perfect crowd pleasure.
