About Me

Welcome to My Website!

Hi there! I’m Bhavna – author, recipe developer, editor, photographer, and the creative force behind Bhavna’s Food Journey. I specialize in crafting simple, healthy, and delicious meals that are easy to make. Here, you’ll find a variety of plant-based, vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free, and vegan recipes that cater to a wide range of dietary needs.

Originally from Mumbai, India, I’ve been living in Canada for over 25 years. By profession, I work in finance at a multinational firm, where I’ve honed my skills in Microsoft Excel—so much so, that I created a page called Excel with Bhavna, where I share tips and tricks to help others master Excel as well.

When I’m not cooking or working, I’m an avid traveler. To date, I’ve explored 48 countries across 6 continents. One of the most unforgettable experiences was standing on a frozen lake in the middle of the night, watching the Northern Lights at -40°C. It was truly a magical moment! You can follow my travel adventures on my Instagram page, Travel with Bhavna. Another of my passions is oil painting, and I’ve filled my home with many of my own creations.

The inspiration behind starting this food blog came from my daughter. She was tired of me repeating recipes and wanted me to write them down for her. Her encouragement led me to start sharing my recipes online. Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and after realizing how much people loved my food, I decided to begin writing down my recipes with precise measurements. I handle everything from recipe creation to photography, and throughout this journey, I’ve learned a great deal about food blogging. I love experimenting with traditional, Western, and fusion recipes, often incorporating spices that are not typically used in Indian cooking. I also take great joy in creating my own spice blends, which add an incredible depth of flavor to my dishes.

One of the most special recipes I’ve shared is my Katlu recipe, a traditional dish often given to new mothers. It has become my most-viewed recipe, and the heartfelt messages I receive from those who try it are incredibly touching. Another family favorite is my Leftover Rice Fritter, a dish my mom used to make when I was growing up. It’s one of the most popular recipes on my blog. I also enjoy sharing tips and tricks with my readers—like my post on how to easily break hard jaggery, which received a great response. And of course, I can’t forget my Churma Ladoo, a recipe passed down from my dad, who’s enjoyed making it until he was 90.

All of this would not be possible without the amazing support and feedback from all of you. Your encouragement keeps me motivated to continue bringing new and exciting recipes to the table. I’m always looking forward to hearing from you and sharing more!

Happy Cooking!

    1. Hi Archana, I am sorry to hear that. To tell you the truth, I have no experience of the dietary restrictions about ulcerative colitis. I wish I can help but I don’t have much knowledge about it, sorry :(.
