Dal Makhani

Dear Friends,

This dal recipe comes from Northern part of India. This is my daughter’s favourite dish. It is very healthy and tastes great. This recipe serves 3 people.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

Whole Urad – 1 cup
Kidney beans – 1/3 cup
Yogurt – 1/2 cup
Finely diced Onion – 1
Tomato puree – 1/2 cup
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Oil for cooking
Salt to taste
Butter – small cube

Procedure

1. Soak dry urad and kidney beans for 5-6 hrs and then pressure cook (4-5 whistles) with little salt and 1 tsp oil. After pressure cooker cools down, mash the beans inside the cooker, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, yogurt and salt to taste. You can add some water to adjust consistency. Cook on slow gas for 15-20 minutes.
