Hello Friends,
This is another famous Gujarati sweet called Magaj prepared mostly during Diwali. It is made with gram flour. This sweet is very delicious but easy to make. Diwali is almost here so decided to make some sweets to share with my family and friends. This one is my daughter’s favourite so I had to make it :).
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
3 cups besan or gram flour
1 1/4 cup ghee or clarified butter
1 cup powdered or icing sugar
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
1 cup roasted cashew powder (optional)
Procedure
1. Heat a wide bottom pan. Add 1 1/4 cup ghee and flour (sieve besan/gram flour before using). Cook on low to medium stirring continuous. Let it cook until mixture turns golden brown and house is filled with fragrance. It will take about 15-20 minutes or sometime more. Turn off the heat and keep it in cool place.
2. If mixture doesn’t harden put in fridge for 10-15 minutes. Keep on eyes, you don’t need very hard mixture. When mixture hardens, add 1 cup icing or powder sugar and 1/4 tsp cardamom powder. Mix well so there are no sugar lumps.
3. Roll small balls. Besan ladoo / Magaj is now ready. You can serve it like this or I rolled besan ladoo in roasted cashew powder.
4. When ready, store in air tight container. You can leave this outside of fridge for few days. This won’t last longer anyways! 🙂
It is a very rich dish. Enjoy this festive sweet with your family and friends.
