How to keep mint fresh for weeks?

I am sure you all go through this. I buy mint and separate the leaves, put in a container and keep it in fridge. I have noticed, the mint leaves starts turning brown in few days no matter how I keep it. I hate throwing any of my vegetables and always looking for solution.  I finally found the solution, yay! The mint you see here is around 10 days old.

Here is what I did to keep mint fresh and after a week they are fresh as a week before:

  • I cleaned up the bunch and removed bruised leaves.
  • I removed all the leaves from bottom of the stem so no leaves touching the water. I used these leaves to make paste for pani puri.
  • In a glass, I added little tap water, just enough to cover the bottom of mint stems.
  • I added all the mint stems in the water.
  • I covered the glass including mint stems with plastic bag. Keep it loose so leaves stays as is. Put this in the fridge.
  • Change the water every 2-3 days.
  • Use the leaves as needed.
  • Stems will start rooting in few days.
  • After you used up most of the leaves, keep few on top and plant the stems in good soil. You will see mint starts growing in few days.
  • Enjoy the unlimited supply of mint whole summer long.

You can make mint chutney, masala for pani puri, use it in curry and more more. Do give it a try!

Let me know if you have question regarding the process.
