I use ginger in almost all curries, masala chai, chutney and many other dishes. I also use it for medicinal purpose. I go through so much ginger. I like to buying organic ginger which is more flavourful and healthy.
Past summer I was in mood to grow veggies. I decided to plant organic ginger and see how it goes. I bought ginger with many eyes. If you decide to plant then buy good quality big ginger with many eyes which eventually sprouts. I planted in April which someone told me it’s late, you need to plant in February or March. I planted in a pot with good quality sold. You can also plant it in ground. I only watered when soil was slightly dry. If it rain heavily, I moved the pot under shed to avoid over watering. I left it outside until Fall when weather started to cool down.
During this month (December) ginger plant leaves started to dry out so I decided to harvest ginger. Once I pulled out all ginger, I wiped it with clean cloth. Then let it dry for 2-3 days inside house. Then it was ready to store in refrigerator. Don’t through leaves, you can use it in curries.
Do try it, you will enjoy the process. Check out the video to see the fresh ginger after harvest.
