This is so quick and easy recipe which will be ready in few minutes. The gravy for this dish is very rich, slightly tangy and sweet. It is so easy to make yet super delicious with paneer and yogurt. Onion paste makes a thick gravy. Cardamom gives this dish a distinct flavour. Many of you already know paneer is an Indian cottage cheese. This recipe serves around 4 people.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10-12 minutes
Paneer – 300 gm
Medium size onion – 4
Garlic cloves – 3-4
Tomato puree – 1 1/2 cup
Yogurt – 1 cup
Cardamom pods – 2
Red, Green or orange bell pepper/capsicum – 2-3
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp
Oil for cooking
Salt to taste
1. Cut onion in big chunks and remove garlic skin. Boil water in a pot, cook onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes or until it is slightly soft. Drain the water.
2. In a blender jar, add boiled onion and garlic, tomato puree, yogurt and seeds from cardamom pods and make a smooth paste.
3. Chop pepper in big pieces. In a pan, heat 2 tbsp oil, add 1 tsp cumin seeds. When cumin seeds are slightly brown, add pepper pieces and saute for 2-3 minutes or until pepper are cooked slightly. Add 1 tsp of chili powder and 1 tsp coriander powder. Saute on low heat for 1 minute. Then add onion garlic tomato puree and 1 tsp of sugar and salt as per taste. Add little water if it is too thick. Simmer on low for 3-4 minutes. At the end, add paneer and cover the pan with lid and turn off the heat immediately.
4. Enjoy this rich, flavourful and colourful dish while it is hot. Serve with naan, roti, paratha or rice and raita on the side. This is a crowd pleasure recipe without spending hours in the kitchen.
